As we near the end of Dave Letterman’s reign on the late night circuit on The Late Show With Dave Letterman, guests are getting sentimental. 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt creator Tina Fey has been on the show 20 times now and to commemorate her last appearance on the show, she gave Letterman a very special gift: her dress.
“When you retire, this is it, I’m never gonna wear a fancy dress on a talk show again,” Fey tells Letterman. “It’s very hard work. I don’t know if you’re aware of the contraptions that are under here, it’s almost medical.”
And while there are other talk shows she will inevitably attend in the future, she has no need to dress up for them – and yes, she was talking to her good pal, Jimmy Fallon. “Like, what am I gonna put a dress on for Jimmy [Fallon]? That’s creepy – he’s like my brother. And wear, like, special underwear for James Corden? That’s not gonna happen.”
Good point. So what does Fey do? She takes off her dress as a parting gift, of course. And the contraption underneath? It had a message for Letterman: “Bye Dave!” on the front, “#LastDressEver on the back. Bless you, Tina Fey.
